Canada Holds Women Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

9/30/2018

Canada and the European Union recently co-hosted the Women Foreign Ministers' Meeting (WFMM) in Montréal. Approximately thirty women lead their country's foreign affairs, with representatives from fourteen countries convening for this two-day event. Together, they addressed international security, diversity, and sexual and gender-based violence, demonstrating the powerful role women play in foreign policy.

Out of the event emerged several big announcements, including over $25 million to further fund women's empowerment and peace initiatives in developing countries. Canada and Uruguay will also be collaborating to host the WPS Focal Points Network in 2020, an international forum of 76 member states to further the involvement of women in foreign affairs. Dubbed by many as the first of its kind, WFMM is a meaningful step at solidifying women's place at the global table. LEARN MORE
