Mom’s Against Poverty Holds 5th Annual Gala

On September 15, 2012, Mom's Against Poverty (MAP), held its 5th annual "Step Out, Step Up" fundraiser to fight poverty in the San Francisco Bay area. Over 1,200 people from all over the United States attended and over $200,000.00 was raised for the all volunteer non-profit organization.

MAP was started in 2008 by 5 concerned mothers who believed in the simple notion that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive and pursue his or her passions and dreams. Over the course of 5 years, MAP has reached and affected well over 10,000 children. In Afghanistan alone, MAP's all girl school in Kabul, Rokhshana, has seen 4,000 girls attend. In Iran, MAP has built orphanages, hired doctors to work with disabled children, and among many others, has provided health insurance for children who do not have access to adequate medical care. MAP's programming extends domestically as well. They have been working tirelessly with several organizations in Northern California to provide support and training for children in the Bay area as well.

MAP was the first organization in the Iranian American community to receive an OFAC license to send money and aid to Iran for recent earthquake victims. The one year license will allow MAP's work to extend well beyond the initial needs of earthquake victims and will aid in the critical rebuilding efforts.
